Fans should let go of fantasies they had about Youri Tielemans joining Arsenal

What does Jorginho’s swoop disclose, if not the fact that Arteta never really wanted Tielemans?

Despite numerous rumours, Youri Tielemans’ summer transfer to Arsenal never happened. Last summer, a £25 million offer from Arsenal would have finalised Tielemans’ transfer to the Emirates, but Arteta and Edu opted to use that money to try to recruit Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, who ultimately never moved to Arsenal.

This winter, many believed that Tielemans would be prioritised for a transfer, and that a cunning offer would suffice. But Arsenal decided to go for Chelsea’s Jorginho instead of making a cunning offer for Tielemans before the winter transfer deadline.

For the following reasons, Jorginho should have joined Arsenal instead of Tielemans: Similar like Jorginho, Tielemans’ contract was slated to end this summer. Since Leicester would have gladly accepted £12 million for Tielemans this winter, it is reasonable to assume that they would have.

Although Tielemans is flexible and around 5 years younger than Jorginho, don’t you believe he would have been a better purchase? Jorginho is without a doubt a good defensive midfielder. Anyway, Jorginho’s potential will be eagerly anticipated by Tielemans supporters. Everything will be OK in Arsenal’s midfield without Partey, at least.
