Two Players Who Matteo Guendouzi Is Scared Of In Golden Boy Race

Matteo Guendouzi insists his nomination for the 2019 Golden Boy award is well deserved.

“It shows that I’ve been working hard at Arsenal and have also done well at international level,” Guendouzi told Arsenal Player.

“I think it’s a reward for all the hard work that I’ve done at the club and the good displays I’ve produced, but it also reflects my progress in training and how much I’ve come on as a player here.”

Guendouzi arrived at the Emirates in 2018 for £8m and immediately broke out as an youth star. He is a regular in the Arsenal first team and an integral part of their midfield force.

The youngster has been so impressive over the past 18 months that he got rewarded with a callup to the senior France side in August. He has picked up 2 assists this season and is developing into a top central figure in the Gunners squad.

He continued, “It’s a reward for all my hard work and I’m hugely proud to be part of the 20 players under the age of 21 who’ve been nominated for the Golden Boy award – it’s fantastic.”

Guendouzi does realise his place in world football but is also aware that other players might beat him to the ultimate prize.

He said, “There are some super players [nominated]. We know there are players like [Matthijs] De Ligt, the Juve defender, and Joao Felix, the Atletico forward. There are fantastic players everywhere and it’s a wonderful award for whoever ends up winning it.”
