Unai Emery On Why Granit Xhaka Was Left Out Of Bournemouth Win

Arsenal fans were relieved to hear from Unai Emery that Granit Xhaka was simply rested for the upcoming Tottenham Hotspur fixture and was not injured as speculated.

The Swiss international has played a key role in the Gunners’ fight for a top four spot this season. Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi were allowed to feature in the deep midfield roles during the 5-1 demolition of AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates last night.

The latter, unfortunately, ended up letting the opposition get in an easy goal by giving up possession near his own box.

After the win at North London which helped Arsenal move 4 points behind Spurs in the 4th spot, Emery said, “Yeah, he’s ok. Today he was rested.”

However, there was another worrying outcome from Wednesday night’s fixture as Sead Kolasinac was seen limping off the pitch after 57 minutes of action.

When asked about the Serbian’s situation, Emery added, “Kolasinac has been having a problem in his muscular and sometimes he’s telling us to rest some matches, some minutes.”

“The first half he finished it well but in the dressing room, he said he can continue but he was feeling some pain. Can continue, but I prefer to change him for rest and also he played Sunday with a big intensity and today we can do the change and carry on with another player.”
