Wenger shares opinion on matches without crowd

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of playing football matches without spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He believes, like many others, that this virus, which has frozen almost all championships, will do enormous damage to football, but also that this is the best solution to protect it.

“Will football without spectators hurt football in the long run? I am convinced of that. This may be a short-term solution, but not a long-term one. It is impossible to imagine a whole season without spectators in the stands. And yet this is the best way to end the season, better than any other solution”, said Wenger.

He added that the vaccine is the main solution for the audience to return to the stands.

“We don’t have a vaccine so people can go to the stadiums by mid-July. There is an example of Italy, where the presence of fans at matches has led to disaster. We can’t be too financially driven and risk so much. First, we need to make sure it’s safe”, Wenger said in an interview with BIN Sports.
