Jack Wilshere has revealed why he is taking time before returning to football.

The former Arsenal man joined West Ham last summer but the contract was terminated by mutual admission.

He has revealed that playing for a ‘smaller club’ like West Ham did not really suit him. He is now a free agent and is looking for a new club, a project that suits him.

Wilshere told Sky Sports: “I’m in a position now where I can make a decision based on footballing reasons.

“[I can] pick the team that I think I could fit into.

“I will have a look at the team, the players, the league they’re in and how the manager wants to play.

“I don’t think being at a smaller club like West Ham really suited me.

“There have been a few talks with clubs, but nothing that I have ever fancied quite yet.”

Arsenal were linked with a move for the midfielder. Wilshere has played for the club for over a decade.

His injury record did not let him grow into the player his potential promised.

The player has now talked about his interest in rejoining the Gunners.
