Ajax Block Arsenal From Approaching Marc Overmars For Technical Director Job

Mirror Sport claims that Ajax are doing everything in their powers to keep Marc Overmars from signing with Arsenal as their technical director.

Now, it is being said that the Eredivisie outfit has completely blocked Arsenal from approaching the 45-year-old.

The Gunners recently ended their relationship with Sven Mislintat and want Overmars to replace the German immediately. While the former Dutch international is interested in working in England, Ajax are leveraging the £200m he raised in transfer funds to keep him at the Johan Cruff Arena for longer.

Overmars has done outstanding work, developing the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez and Frenkie de Jong. Unfortunately for Ajax, the club has been quick to pocket from these assets and ended up not winning anything over the past 5 seasons.

This has led Overmars to get frustrated with Ajax. Unfortunately for his ambitions, the Lancers are not willing to let go of Overmars anytime soon. They have even refused any financial compensation from Arsenal.

Overmars played 3 seasons at Highbury and won the Premier League and the FA Cup in 1997-98. He has stayed in contact with the Gunners but Ajax’s heavy resistance has steered Arsenal towards making AS Roma’s Monchi their number one target.
