Timothy Castagne, one of Arsenal’s top targets for the right-back position, is allegedly in talks with Leicester City, and it is possible that things could move swiftly
The latter part of the Emirates’ successful season was marred. In a crucial four-game period, three draws and a loss effectively gave Manchester City the title.
Defensive shortcomings did not aid those outcomes. Ben White could have moved to the middle if there had been right-back cover, but the Gunners were obliged to start Rob Holding since William Saliba was sidelined for the final 11 games of the season.
We shall never know if the suggested modifications would have made a difference. In order to adequately handle any injuries that may arise in the upcoming season, Mikel Arteta will want to make sure he has enough depth, thus defensive reinforcements are essential. Castagne, a right-back for Leicester, was reportedly on Arsenal’s radar in May. It appears that the initial stages of interest have passed. Indeed, according to writer Sacha Tavolieri, the Gunners have’started conversations’ with Leicester about a potential trade for the full-back and are ‘going for’ him.
The journalist adds that the action “could develop quickly.” There is no mention of a fee, but given that Castagne is near the top of Arteta’s list of right-backs, it wouldn’t be unexpected if things moved quickly. This year, the Belgian has enjoyed one of his best campaigns while wearing a Leicester jersey. In fact, after being limited by injury for his first two seasons at the club, he played every Premier League game this season with the exception of one, scoring twice and providing three assists.
He should most likely still be playing in the Premier League given that he was one of the standout players. Even though he probably wouldn’t start for Arsenal, he may still make a difference. Castagne is now playing for a Championship team, thus the transfer cost shouldn’t be excessive. So, before the season begins, Arteta might be able to decide on his backup defensive choices quickly and easily.
