Arsenal legend Ian Wright has praised Unai Emery after the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Liverpool last night.

Liverpool took the lead just after the hour mark thanks to James Milner who scored his 50th Premier League goal. However, Arsenal fought back hard and Alexandre Lacazette netted a brilliant equaliser in the 82nd minute.

Wright praised Emery for making the substitutions he has made this season. Last night, substitute Alex Iwobi delivered the cross that led to Lacazette’s equaliser. Additionally, 8 goals for Arsenal have been scored by a substitute.

Wright said, “I thought Arsenal were under pressure because a lot of people have been saying on this [unbeaten] run that they haven’t played anyone of substance. Obviously they lost to City and Chelsea at the start but I think they proved a lot of people wrong today because they came out and really had a go at Liverpool.

I thought they deserved something out of it. You could see Unai Emery talking about wide, that’s the areas where you can hurt them and Hector Bellerin and [Sead] Kolasinac were wide. Iwobi came on and was brilliant, he’s not afraid to make substitutions – 10 goals they’ve been involved in, six goals, four assists.

He came on again and really made a big difference for us, Arsenal kept it alive and were mentally stronger. I think it’s 19 goals they’ve scored in the second half of games when they’re 1-0 down. We’ve got a manager now who is not afraid to make changes and the changes are making a difference.”

Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League table as Tottenham beat Wolves 3-2 to go to 4th. Their next match is a Europa League fixture against Sporting CP on Thursday.
