Arsenal Looking To Move Ainsley Maitland-Niles On For £20m

According to the latest reports, Ainsley Maitland-Niles could be sold off by Arsenal this summer.

There is a growing list of expenses that the Gunners need to worry, the priority being Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension.

That means finding avenues to raise an extra bit of cash is more welcome at the moment. Mikel Arteta reportedly already had a falling out with Maitland-Niles. The 22-year-old was benched only after a couple of starts under Arteta. Since then, he has appeared sporadically but never in his usual right-back role.

Maitland-Niles broke into the Arsenal senior team in the defensive position. He primarily trained as a defensive midfielder or even as a winger. Seeing how his chances are limited in playing in those respective positions, his sale makes a lot of sense. Arteta has already voiced his demands from players in training. If he gets anything less out them, the Spaniard is not afraid to pull the plug.

Maitland-Niles did appear in his preferred midfield position in the friendlies against Charlton and Brentford. While he supplied an assist in the first game, his error eventually led to Arsenal losing against the Bees. The Sun claims that Arsenal are willing to take no less than £20 million for the Englishman. That is a decent fee, given his age and the length of his contract.
