Arsenal Manager Not Ready To Guarantee Starting Spot For Mesut Ozil

Unai Emery was not convinced by Mesut Ozil’s performance in the 3-0 return leg win over BATE Borisov to offer him a guaranteed spot in his starting XI.

The Gunners managed to get past the Belarusian side after losing 1-0 in the first leg of the Round of 32 Europa League fixture. However, the talk among the fans was about Ozil’s inclusion in the matchday squad altogether.

The German not only was named for the game, he even got his second start for the club since Boxing Day of last year. While the possibilities of a summer exit have not been extinguished just yet, it was definitely refreshing to see the attacking midfielder finally making an appearance on the pitch.

After collecting the win at the Emirates, Emery said, “Today he showed what he wants. If he is available, like the last two weeks, we are going to play a lot of matches and maybe sometimes we need him in the starting XI and sometimes on the bench because we have a lot of players to also help us.”

“His spirit like today is good and his quality and capacity and combination with some players is good, I think we need every player and today playing Mesut was important and positive.”
