Arsenal Open to Evaluating Max Dowman Loan Move, Says Mikel Arteta

Dowman returned to the spotlight this week after marking his first appearance of the season with a stunning brace in Arsenal’s 4-2 Carabao Cup victory at Ipswich.

Despite the impressive display, Arteta remains cautious about overexposing the highly-rated youngster.

“We haven’t really listened to any of the possibilities because we were crystal clear that we wanted to have Max in the squad,” Arteta said in his Friday press conference.

“We will evaluate every six months where we are and what is the best thing for him to do and then make the right decision.”

Luton Town manager and former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reportedly spoken to Arteta about bringing Dowman to his League One side on a temporary deal.

Dowman becomes eligible for a loan switch when he turns 17 on December 31.

Arteta acknowledged that circumstances could influence the decision, citing factors such as the player’s needs, squad availability, and the quality of minutes he receives.

The Spaniard also pointed to Ethan Nwaneri’s loan experiences at Marseille and Borussia Dortmund as examples of the club’s approach to developing young talent.

When asked whether Dowman might be too young for a loan move, Arteta referenced his own experience moving to Paris Saint-Germain at 17.

“It depends on the atmosphere that you find there, and how much the coach believes in you,” he explained.

“But now he is in a good place, let’s keep him here.”

Dowman will push for his first Premier League outing of the season when Arsenal travel to Brighton on Saturday, aiming to maintain their perfect record.

Arteta emphasized that performing on the pitch remains the best way for young players to earn opportunities.
