Latest Update From Arteta On Lucas Torreira's Horrific Injury

Lucas Torreira suffered a terrible injury on the pitch in the FA Cup tie with Portsmouth on Monday.

He twisted his ankle in the first half of the game and Mikel Arteta provided an update at full time. Although Arsenal had a win of 2-0, their win was made less comfortable by his sudden injury.

Portsmouth defender James Bolton left Torreira wriggling in pain as he put in a brace as he was put on the stretcher within the first 15 minutes of the game itself. Torreira was seen to be holding on to his right leg in immense pain and finally had to be given oxygen on the stretcher to prevent him from passing out on the pitch. His position was replaced by Dani Ceballos.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told BT Sport after the match: “Lucas was very sore and is in a brace. He will be assessed in a few days and then we will know more.”

We strongly suspect that Lucas Torreira might probably be out for long time – maybe the season. Now that he is out, the onus to perform and deliver in the upcoming matches will be even more on the likes of Ceballos and Xhaka.
