Mikel Arteta Does Not Regret Champions League Claims From Last Year

Mikel Arteta does not regret passing Champions League claims last year.

When convincing Willian to sign for Arsenal, the Spanish boss outlayed his ambitions at the club.

One of them was to win their first Champions League trophy within three years. Of course, Arsenal couldn’t be further from that goal, currently ninth in the table and heavily backed to finish without European football at all.

Arteta has come under heavy pressure for not delivering Champions League football whether that is by finishing in the top four or winning the Europa League. Fortunately for him, the club’s ownership still believes in his philosophy and vision to keep him at the job.

This summer could be the major turning point for Arsenal depending on how they reshuffle the squad.

Arteta reiterated, “It cannot be any other ambition at this football club, it cannot be. If you don’t have that we won’t reach it.

“There’s only one winner in the Champions League and there is only one winner in the Premier League, the rest of the teams have failed. For any of the other teams finishing second or third is not a big achievement.”
