Arsenal boss Unai Emery praised Aaron Ramsey for his performance in last night’s Carabao Cup encounter against Blackpool.

Ramsey played the entirety of the match as Arsenal qualified for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after beating Blackpool 2-1. Stephan Lichtsteiner’s first Arsenal opened the scoring in the 30th minute before teenager Emile Smith-Rowe doubled it.

Matteo Guendouzi’s red card reduced Arsenal to 10 men. Blackpool pulled one back in the 66th minute thanks to Paudie O’Connor who later received a red card.

About Ramsey’s performance and his future at Arsenal, Emery said, “For me, he worked very well. I spoke with him last week and I want his focus with us. I am very happy with his performance, with his work and on the whole he helped us.”

There has been a lot of talk about Aaron Ramsey’s future at Arsenal lately. The Welsh midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to sign a new contract. Earlier, Ramsey said that a new contract was on the cards before Arsenal withdrew.

Unai Emery did not talk much about Ramsey’s contract situation except say, “For me it’s on the pitch. Each training, each match like today.”

Arsenal take on rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on December 19.
