Arsenal are reportedly close to signing Chelsea centre-back David Luiz and his transfer could cost the Gunners £12 million.

According to the Sun, Luiz wants to leave Chelsea and the club’s manager Frank Lampard has allowed him to do so. The Blues are willing to let him go for a meagre £12 million.

Luiz has gone on to make 248 appearances for Chelsea so far, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists. After being benched under Antonio Conte in the 17/18 season, the centre-back became a regular under Maurizio Sarri last season and had a fairly decent partnership with Antonio Rudiger at central defence as the Blues finished 3rd in the Premier League and won the Europa League.

Luiz made 50 appearances last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists and was also in the Europa League’s Team of the Season.

Following the departure of Laurent Koscielny to Bordeaux, Arsenal are in dire need of a centre-back and Luiz could well be the player they need. It will be interesting to see if the Gunners manage to sign Luiz on deadline day.
