The match which was to be played on Wednesday between Arsenal and Manchester City has been called off until further notice over coronavirus scare.
Turns out, Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis has come out positive for coronavirus. Arsenal had recently played against Olympiakos in the UEFA Europa League, and Marinakis had greeted the entire Arsenal squad personally.
Which means that there could be a danger of Arsenal players coming down with Covid-19, thus they appealed to the FA for postponing the match and their request was granted. The match has been postponed indefinitely and currently, the 1,000 tickets which were sold are being processed back as refunds.
This is precautionary measure taken by the FA, and as of now, no other matches have been cancelled.
Marinakis broke the news over social media, rolling out a statement about his illness.
“The recent virus has ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know,” he said. “I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctor’s instructions.”
However, Olympiakos is due to play against Wolves in the Europa League as well, and Wolves also requested for a match postpone, but was rejected by the UEFA board over ‘financial concerns’.
