German boss was criticised because of his decision to play Kai Havertz in this position.

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz is taking part in international friendlies for Germany and he shocked fans by playing as a left-back in the previous friendly game against Turkey.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann has explained his decision to play him as a left-back. The Gunners star has played in many positions during his career, but playing as a left-back was his first.

Kai Havertz scored a goal for his team but still, they lost to Turkey. German boss was naturally criticised because of that decision.

Nagelsmann was asked to explain why he played Arsenal star as a left back and he said via Standard Sport: “We have different formations depending on how high the opponent stands and defends – Kai won’t always be in that position.

“I have a lot of ideas for him because he is an exceptionally good footballer. It’s a very good option. He won’t always play as the classic left-back that you might know.

One fact is Havertz has struggled a lot to play well in midfield at Arsenal. Nagelsmann decided to try him in a new position to find a different outcome.
